What specialist services and expertise are available at or accessed by the school?

These services are accessed depending on the level and type of need, which can change on a regular basis:

  • Educational Psychologist

  • Speech and Language Therapy (Hackney Ark)

  • First Steps (Clinical Psychology)

  • Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS)

  • Social Services

What training have the staff supporting children with SEN+D completed?


  • Bachelors degree in Primary Education with QTS, specialising in Early Years/Foundation Stage.

Class teachers/Key Workers and LSAs have attended a variety of Local Authority training including:

  • Makaton (Beginners and Enhancement)

  • How to support children on the autistic spectrum

  • How to support children with behavioural, social and emotional needs

  • Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS)

  • Social Communication / Emotional Regulation / Transactional Support (SCERTS)

How are the school’s resources allocated and matched to the pupil’s special educational needs?

  • The SEND budget is allocated each financial year. The money is used to provide additional support or resources dependent on an individual’s needs.

  • The additional provision may be allocated after discussion with parents/carers, class teacher or if a concern has been raised at another point during the term.

  • Resources may include deployment of staff depending on individual circumstances

  • Children with EHC plans are budgeted for separately depending on the level of funding described in their plan.

How is the decision made about how much support my child will receive?

  • These decisions are made in consultation with yourself, classroom staff, the SENDCo and the Head Teacher.
  • Decisions can also be based upon the results of assessments by outside agencies.

How are Governors involved and what are their responsibilities?

  • SEND is an item in the written Headteacher’s report to Governors 3 times each year

  • We have a named Governor for SEND – Samantha Sweeney

  • Samantha and other Governors visit the school and write a report of their visit which they share with senior staff and the full Governing body.
