NEW: FREE 30 Hour Nursery Entitlement

In September 2017 the government are introducing FREE 30 hours nursery entitlement for working parents with children aged 3-4.

The current entitlement

All 3 and 4 year olds will continue to be eligible for 15 hours per week of free early education. This is a universal entitlement for all children. The new entitlement is an extension of the current entitlement and provides an additional 15 hours of free childcare for children that are eligible.

Definition of qualifying children for the new entitlement

The new entitlement to 30 hours free childcare is intended to support working parents with the cost of childcare and enable them, where they wish, to return to work or to work additional hours.

The additional 15 hours will be available to families where both parents are working (or the sole parent is working in a lone parent family), and each parent earns, on average, a weekly minimum equivalent to 16 hours at national minimum wage (NMW) or national living wage (NLW), and less than £100,000 per year. Working will include employed and self-employed persons. Parents do not necessarily need to actually work 16 hours a week, but rather their earnings must reflect at least 16 hours of work at NMW or NLW, which is £107 a week at the current NMW rate. This includes those parents on zero contract hours who meet the criteria.

The new entitlement is to support parents to take up work or increase their working hours. Parents who are studying will not qualify for the new entitlement, unless they meet the criteria outlined above.

 How do I apply?

You can apply on line the term before your child's 3rd birthday at:

The on-line application process should take about 20 minutes and the result, in most cases, is instant.  Once you have your result, please visit the school office who will ask to see the confirmation email and 11 digit unique reference code that you will have received.  If you are not entitled to the free 30 hour provision you will still be able to receive the 15 hour nursery provision provided to all 3-4 year olds.
